Black Doctors Row/Christian Street Historic District
What is it?
As part of South of South Neighborhood Association's Preservation Action Plan, SOSNA has partnered with the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia and Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson to nominate Black Doctors Row/Christian Street Historic District to the Philadelphia Historical Commission (PHC).
The proposed historic district spans a six-block stretch of Christian Street, running from the first street addresses west of South Broad Street (1412 Christian St. on the south side, and 1419 Christian St. on the north side) to 20th Street.
The District has...
-
significant character, interest or value as part of the development, heritage or cultural characteristics of the City, Commonwealth or Nation or is associated with the life of a person significant in the past and
-
reflects the environment in an era characterized by a distinctive architectural style (between 1910-1945).
