Friends, neighbors, and supporters --
We invite you to a Community Walk down Taney Street this Sunday afternoon, starting at 1pm at North Taney and Ridge Ave.
The walk will move South on the 1800 block of Taney St. to the 1700 Block and finish at Cecil B. Moore Ave.
Volunteers will knock on doors, invite neighbors to join the walk, and share why it's so important to remove Roger Taney's name from a place of honor and replace it with someone we can be proud of, Caroline LeCount, "Philadelphia's Rosa Parks," who the street's residents voted to honor instead.
We are seeking petition signatures up and down Taney Street, so please sign the petition and invite your neighbors!
We will be joined by special guest ‘Philly Elmo’ aka Positive Movement Entertainment, for an unforgettable performance!
Kids joining the walk will get a free scoop of ice cream at Over the Moon Ice Cream (2623 Girard Ave.) and a Caroline LeCount coloring book designed by our volunteers!
Please share this event with your friends and neighbors, we hope you join us!
This movement is a volunteer-led effort from North to South Taney to accomplish something unprecedented in modern Philadelphia history: To officially rename a street from one end to the other. We seek to honor a great Philadelphia hero in Caroline LeCount, and take down symbols of hate, bigotry, and injustice to make everyone feel respected throughout the city.
But to do this, we really need your help. This movement is entirely made up of volunteer time and financial support, and convincing City Council to pass a law changing the name isn't something that happens overnight (although...it could?). So please come out and support this effort, email us if you or your organization want to get involved, and if you can, please donate below.
Thanks and we hope to see you Sunday,
-The Rename Taney to LeCount Coalition
